What is Tenkara?

What is Tenkara?

Tenkara is the traditional Japanese method of fly fishing, where only a rod, line and fly are used. Tenkara originated and was perfected over centuries in the mountain streams of Japan, where it was originally practiced by commercial fishermen who caught fish for a living. It is the ideal method for fly fishing mountain streams and small streams, where reels are hardly necessary, and a long rod provides many advantages.

11ft to 14ft 7in rods collapse down to a mere 20 inches and all pieces remain protected inside the rod until you are ready to fish. The long rod allows you to effectively fish very challenging waters by keeping the light line completely off currents for the ultimate drag-free drifts and precise manipulation.

Tenkara is about fly fishing simplicity. It's about enjoying the full fly fishing experience with only the necessary amount of gear.

All you need is a rod, line and fly!!!
